Facebook Page SEO changed more between June 2025 and June 2026 than it did in the previous five years combined. Two events did it: Meta opened public Page content to Google's crawler on 10 July 2025, and then on 15 June 2026 Meta replaced the familiar list of search results inside Facebook with AI Mode — a conversational answer engine that reads public posts, Groups, comments and Reels and writes an answer instead of handing back links.

That means the job is no longer "get your Page to appear when someone types your business name." It is three jobs at once: rank in Facebook's classic index, get cited by AI Mode, and get your public posts indexed by Google. This guide walks through all three, corrects five tactics that most Facebook SEO articles still recommend even though Meta retired them years ago, and ends with a Bangladesh-specific section on Bangla and Banglish search behaviour that no ranking competitor covers.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Three surfaces, one Page. In 2026 your Page competes in Facebook classic search, Facebook AI Mode, and Google — each rewards slightly different signals.
  • AI Mode is the new battleground. Launched globally on 15 June 2026, it answers questions from public posts, Groups and Reels rather than returning ranked links.
  • Your Page name is still the single strongest on-page signal — but Meta now reviews every rename, so get it right before you submit.
  • Only public professional accounts get indexed by Google, and only content published from 1 January 2020 onward.
  • Hashtags were demoted, not killed. Caption text now does the ranking work; 2–3 tags are enough.
  • For Bangladesh Pages, bilingual optimization is the biggest untapped edge — most local searches are typed in Banglish, and almost nobody optimizes for it.

What is Facebook Page SEO?

Definition: Facebook Page SEO is the practice of structuring your Page name, username, About fields, captions, media and community activity so that Facebook's search index, Facebook's AI Mode answer engine, and external search engines like Google can all understand what your business does — and surface it to people actively looking for it.

The important word there is structuring. Facebook Page SEO is not a growth hack and it is not the same thing as running ads. It is the unglamorous work of making your Page machine-readable: putting the right words in the right fields, publishing on a rhythm, and giving both algorithms and humans enough context to trust you.

It differs from website SEO in one crucial way. On Google you optimize a document. On Facebook you optimize an entity — a business identity made of name, category, location, reviews, posts, and the conversations people have about you. That entity is what gets retrieved. Everything below is about making that entity clearer.

The three search surfaces you now rank on

Most Facebook SEO guides still describe a single search box. That model is out of date. Here is what your Page is actually competing in as of September 2026.

The traditional index. Someone types a business name, a service, or a location and gets back Pages, posts, Groups, Marketplace listings and people. Relevance, engagement, recency, personal network and location all feed into it. This surface still handles the bulk of navigational searches — people looking for a specific brand they already know.

2. Facebook AI Mode (launched 15 June 2026)

Meta announced AI Mode on 15 June 2026 as a search tab that uses Meta AI to answer questions in plain language, drawing on the culture, opinions and recommendations people share publicly across Meta's apps rather than returning a list of links. It reads public posts, Group discussions, public comments and Reels. It runs on Muse Spark, the first model from Meta Superintelligence Labs, introduced on 8 April 2026.

The strategic consequence is significant and most brands have not adjusted yet: your public posts are now retrieval inventory. A post is no longer just something that gets seen for 48 hours and dies. It is a document that can be pulled into an answer months later — or ignored entirely while a competitor gets named instead.

3. Google and other external search engines

On 10 July 2025 Meta began allowing search engines to crawl and index public content from professional Facebook and Instagram accounts. Two eligibility rules matter and are widely misreported: the account must be a public professional account (business or creator), and the content must have been published on or after 1 January 2020. Personal profile posts and private accounts remain excluded.

Why this matters for Bangladeshi Pages

A huge share of Bangladeshi small businesses run entirely on a Facebook Page with no website. Before July 2025 that meant zero Google presence beyond the Page URL itself. Now every well-written product post is a potential Google result. If you sell from a Page and have never written a caption with search in mind, this is the highest-leverage change available to you.

Surface What it returns What it rewards most Your main lever
Facebook classic search Ranked Pages, posts, Groups Name match, engagement, recency, proximity Page name, username, category, About fields
Facebook AI Mode A synthesized conversational answer Clear, specific, quotable public content on one topic Post captions written as answers; Group participation
Google Blue links, images, AI Overviews Crawlable public professional content, external links Public Page setting, keyword-led first sentence, alt text

Facebook Page SEO ranking factors in 2026

Meta does not publish a ranking factor list the way Google publishes documentation. What follows is drawn from Meta's own product statements, the behaviour of the search and Feed systems, and consistent patterns across Pages. Treat the confidence column honestly — some of these are documented, some are inferred.

Factor What it means in practice Confidence
Text relevance How closely your Page name, category, About text and captions match the query wording High
Recency Fresh posts surface more readily; dormant Pages fade from search High
Engagement quality Comments and shares carry more weight than passive reactions High
Profile completeness Filled category, hours, address, phone, website, services High
Language match Meta favours content in the language of the query — critical for bilingual markets High
Location proximity For local queries, Facebook weighs address, device location and IP Medium
Reviews and Recommendations Volume, sentiment and the words customers use in their reviews Medium
Personal network Pages a searcher's friends follow rank higher for that searcher Medium
Hashtags Categorization only — demoted from a reach lever to metadata Low
Backlinks Not a Facebook search factor; they affect how your Page ranks on Google Low (inside FB)
Paid ads No direct ranking effect; they amplify the engagement that does rank Indirect only

Step 1: Page name and username

Your Page name is the strongest single text signal Facebook has about you. Get it right and half the work is done. Get it wrong and no amount of posting compensates.

Naming that works without breaking Meta's rules

The goal is a name that a human recognises as a business and that contains the words people search. The pattern that consistently works:

Brand + Descriptor + Location

  • Weak: Nabila's
  • Better: Nabila's Kitchen — Home Made Cake Dhanmondi
  • Weak: TechZone BD
  • Better: TechZone BD — Laptop & Gaming PC, Uttara

What Meta will reject: names that are only generic keywords with no brand ("Best Cake Dhaka"), names using variations of "Facebook" or "Meta", excessive punctuation or all-caps, misleading terms, and titles or role descriptions. If a rename is denied you can resubmit with a compliant name.

How to change it in 2026: acting as your Page, go to Settings & privacy → Settings → Page setup → Name, or in Meta Business Suite go to Settings → Page info → Edit. Only an admin with full control can request it, and Meta reviews every request — approval typically takes anywhere from a few minutes to about three days.

Plan the rename properly

Meta changes the name on the Page and nowhere else. Your old name still lives in your website footer, your email signature, your Google Business Profile, your bKash merchant name, printed packaging and every directory listing. Inconsistent name-address-phone data across those places actively weakens both your Facebook and Google visibility. Make a list before you submit.

Claiming your username (custom URL)

The username is your handle — the @name people tag and the thing that turns facebook.com/profile.php?id=100xxxxxxxx into facebook.com/YourBrandDhaka. A clean username is easier to remember, easier to link to, and produces a cleaner Google result.

  • Usernames accept letters, numbers and periods only. Non-Latin characters are not currently supported, so a Bangla-script handle is not an option.
  • Keep it identical to your handle on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok where possible — consistency is an entity signal.
  • Short beats keyword-stuffed. facebook.com/TechZoneBD outperforms facebook.com/BestLaptopShopDhakaBangladesh2026.
  • Once changed you may not be able to reclaim the old one, so decide before you commit.

Correction: the "25 fans" rule no longer exists

Several widely-shared Facebook SEO guides still state that you need at least 25 followers before you can claim a custom URL, and that you can only change it once ever. Neither has been true for years. A brand-new Page with zero followers can claim an available username today, and usernames can be changed more than once — though sparingly.

Step 2: The About section and Page fields

Treat the About section as your homepage copy. Facebook reads it, Google indexes it, and AI Mode uses it to decide what kind of business you are. Every empty field is a signal you did not care enough to fill it in.

Field What to put in it SEO weight
Category The most specific match available — "Bakery" not "Local Business". Add up to three. Very high
Bio / short description One line: what you sell, for whom, where. Lead with the search term. Very high
Additional information 2–3 short paragraphs covering services, coverage area and what makes you different. High
Address and service area Exact address if you have a shop; service area list if you deliver. High (local)
Phone, email, website Must match every other listing you own, character for character. High
Hours Real hours, updated for Eid and public holidays. Medium
Action button Send Message, WhatsApp, Call Now or Shop Now — pick the one you actually answer. Medium (conversion)

One rule governs all of it: write for a person, place keywords naturally. A description that reads "cake Dhaka cake delivery Dhaka best cake shop Dhaka" does not rank better; it reads as spam to humans and gives the language model nothing coherent to work with.

Step 3: Post-level optimization

Page fields get you into the index. Posts are what actually get retrieved for specific queries — and since July 2025, they are what Google indexes too. This is where most Pages leave the most value on the table.

Front-load the caption

Facebook truncates captions in Feed, and Google frequently builds a snippet from the opening sentence of an indexed post. Put your key term inside the first 10–12 words. Not "Assalamu alaikum everyone, we have exciting news today…" but "Winter jacket collection now in stock at our Bashundhara showroom — here is what arrived."

Write posts that answer questions

A caption phrased as an answer to a real question is far more useful to AI Mode than a caption phrased as an announcement. Compare:

✗ Announcement: "New arrival! DM for price 💕"

✓ Answer: "How much does a custom birthday cake cost in Dhaka? A 1kg custom chocolate cake from us starts at BDT 1,200, with 24-hour notice and free delivery inside Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur and Lalmatia."

The second version is quotable. It contains a question, an entity, a price, a timeframe and a service area. That is exactly the shape of content an answer engine can lift into a response — and exactly the shape Google can match to a long-tail query.

Post consistently, not constantly

Recency is a genuine signal, which means a dormant Page slides out of search regardless of how good its old content was. But volume without quality does nothing. A realistic and effective cadence for most small businesses is 3–5 posts per week, with at least one of them written deliberately as a searchable answer post rather than a promotion.

Use hashtags as labels, not as a strategy

Hashtags on Facebook still function — they remain clickable and searchable — but their role has shifted from driving reach to categorising content. Two to three genuinely relevant tags per post is the sensible ceiling. Twenty tags will not increase reach and may read as spam behaviour. Caption text does the ranking work now.

Step 4: Video, Reels and alt text

Video is where the biggest easy wins remain, because most Pages upload video with no text metadata at all.

  • Upload natively. Native video is indexed and surfaced by Facebook; a YouTube link is just a link.
  • Write a real title and description. Not "video 3" — a descriptive title containing the term someone would search.
  • Add captions and burn in on-screen text. Most Facebook video in Bangladesh is watched on mobile data with sound off. On-screen text is read by viewers and gives Meta's multimodal systems something to parse.
  • Write custom alt text on every image. Facebook auto-generates alt text; it is generic and useless for search. Replace it. Alt text is part of what Meta made crawlable in the July 2025 indexing change, which means it is now a Google signal as well as an accessibility one.
  • Name your image files before uploading. gaming-pc-build-dhaka.jpg costs nothing and beats IMG_20260903.jpg.

Step 5: Reviews, Groups and community signals

Recommendations

Facebook Recommendations do two things for search. They add trust signals to your Page, and — often overlooked — they add customer vocabulary to it. When ten customers write "fast delivery in Mirpur", your Page now carries that phrase in text you did not have to write. Ask for reviews after a successful order, respond to every one, and handle negatives publicly and calmly.

Groups are now a retrieval source

This has changed materially. Group discussions have always shown up in Facebook's internal search. But AI Mode explicitly draws on Group content when synthesizing answers, which turns Group participation from a soft brand-building activity into direct visibility work.

The practical move: identify the three or four Groups in your niche where buying questions actually get asked — a "Dhaka Foodies" type group, a district buy-and-sell group, a professional community — and answer questions there properly. A detailed, genuinely helpful comment naming your business and its specifics is far more likely to be picked up than a link drop, which most Group admins delete anyway.

Be precise about what backlinks do here, because most guides overstate it. Links pointing to your Facebook Page are not a Facebook search ranking factor. They matter because they help your Facebook Page rank on Google, and because they build the overall entity signal that makes both systems more confident about who you are.

  • Link your Page from your website header or footer, not just a social icon strip.
  • Embed your best-performing Facebook posts on relevant blog pages.
  • List the same Page URL on your Google Business Profile, YouTube channel, LinkedIn and any local directory.
  • If your business is covered by a local news site or blog, ask them to link the Page as well as the website.

How to optimize for Facebook AI Mode

This is the section no other Facebook SEO guide currently ranking for this term includes, because most were written or last updated before 15 June 2026. If you do one thing from this article, do this.

AI Mode does not rank your Page. It retrieves fragments of public content and stitches them into an answer. So the question shifts from "how do I rank higher?" to "what would make my content the thing worth quoting?" Practitioners call this generative engine optimization, and the version that applies to Facebook is different from the Google version in one important way: the corpus is not the indexed web, it is what people say publicly to each other.

Five moves that make your Page quotable

  1. Answer one question per post. A post that covers five things gets retrieved for none of them. A post that answers "what is the delivery charge to Chattogram?" is a clean retrieval unit.
  2. Include specifics. Prices, timelines, model numbers, coverage areas, warranty terms. Vague content cannot be quoted — a language model has nothing to extract.
  3. Build topical consistency. A Page that posts about one domain repeatedly reads as an authority on it. A Page that posts about everything reads as an authority on nothing.
  4. Participate where the discussion happens. Group comments are part of the corpus. A substantive answer in a Group is a retrievable asset.
  5. Audit yourself. Open AI Mode and ask the ten questions a customer would ask before buying from you. Note whether you are named, whether a competitor is named, and what the answer gets wrong about your category. That list is your content calendar.

A caveat worth stating plainly

Because AI Mode summarises content from everyday users rather than vetted sources, answers can be outdated or wrong — a concern raised widely when the feature launched. That cuts both ways for a business. If inaccurate claims about your product or your prices circulate publicly, they can end up inside an answer about you. Correcting misinformation in public comments is now a reputation-management task with a direct visibility consequence.

Facebook Page SEO for Bangladesh businesses

Bangladesh is one of the largest Facebook markets in the world and one of the least optimized. Estimates of the Bangladeshi audience vary by methodology — DataReportal's Digital 2026 report put Facebook's local ad reach around 64 million against 82.8 million internet users at the end of 2025, while NapoleonCat's advertising-audience data showed roughly 75.2 million by August 2026. Either way, the picture is the same: Facebook is the internet for a very large share of the country, and for hundreds of thousands of businesses the Page is the storefront.

Bangla, Banglish, or English — which do people actually type?

This is the single biggest unexploited opportunity in Bangladeshi Facebook SEO, and no global guide addresses it. Bangladeshi users search Facebook in three different scripts, often for the same thing:

Query style Example Who searches this way Competition
English cake shop dhanmondi Urban, English-medium, desktop users High
Banglish cake er dokan dhanmondi The majority of mobile keyboard users Very low
Bangla script কেকের দোকান ধানমন্ডি Bangla-keyboard and voice-input users Low

Meta prioritises content that matches the language of the query. A Page that only ever posts in English is invisible to a large share of its own market. The fix is straightforward and nobody is doing it:

  • Write bilingual captions. Lead with the English search phrase, then repeat the offer in Bangla underneath. You are not diluting the post — you are indexing it twice.
  • Put Banglish in your About text and in comments. Your Page name should stay clean and brandable, but the Additional Information field is a fine place for a natural sentence containing "home delivery Dhaka", "sarasori dokan theke", or however your customers actually phrase it.
  • Answer comments in the language the comment was written in. Those comments are public text on your Page and they are part of the AI Mode corpus.
  • Remember usernames must stay Latin-script. Bangla characters are not supported in the handle, so put the Bangla in your Page name and content instead.

Local intent patterns that convert in Bangladesh

Bangladeshi Facebook search is intensely local and intensely area-specific. People do not search "Dhaka" — they search Bashundhara, Uttara Sector 7, Mirpur 10, Agrabad, Zindabazar. Build those into your captions and About text. Pair them with the transaction words people actually use: home delivery, cash on delivery, bKash, Nagad, installment, EMI, wholesale rate, showroom.

A caption containing "home delivery Mirpur 10, bKash and cash on delivery both accepted" is doing more search work than any hashtag block ever will.

Compliance signals that build trust (and are increasingly expected)

If you run an F-commerce business, formal registration is no longer optional in Bangladesh. A trade licence from your City Corporation, Paurashava or Union Parishad is required for any business selling online, including one operating purely from a Facebook Page, and the Ministry of Commerce's Digital Business Identification (DBID) system exists specifically to register digital and Facebook-based commerce entities. A TIN from the NBR is a separate requirement.

The regulatory direction is tightening further. On 22 July 2026 the Ministry of Commerce published a draft Cross-Border Digital Commerce Policy 2026 for public feedback, which proposes requiring foreign platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and Google to establish a registered presence in Bangladesh before running advertisements targeting local consumers, alongside consumer-protection measures on refunds, counterfeit goods and after-sales disclosure. That draft was still open for consultation as of August 2026 and had not been finalised at the time of writing, so treat it as direction of travel rather than current law.

The SEO connection is real, not incidental: displaying your trade licence number, DBID, refund policy and physical address on your Page fills exactly the fields Facebook uses to assess completeness and trust, and gives Google and AI Mode concrete, verifiable facts to work with.

5 outdated tactics you should stop following

Several of the highest-ranking Facebook SEO articles on Google right now still recommend tactics that Meta retired years ago. If you followed a guide and something did not exist when you looked for it, this is probably why.

Still being recommended Reality in 2026 Do this instead
"Publish long-form content to Facebook Notes" Notes was discontinued — creating and editing notes ended 31 October 2020. Publish long-form on your own site and post a summary with a link.
"You need 25 fans for a vanity URL" No follower minimum applies. New Pages can claim a username immediately. Claim your handle on day one before someone else takes it.
"Load 20–30 hashtags per post" Hashtags were demoted to categorization metadata; caption text does the work. Use 2–3 relevant tags; invest the effort in the first line of the caption.
"Go to Settings → Page Info to rename" The path changed with the current Pages experience and Meta reviews every rename. Settings & privacy → Settings → Page setup → Name, as a full-control admin.
"Facebook content can't rank on Google" False since 10 July 2025 for public professional accounts posting from 2020 onward. Confirm your Page is a public professional account and write captions for search.

How to measure Facebook Page SEO

Follower count tells you almost nothing about search visibility. These do:

  • Non-follower reach. In Meta Business Suite Insights, the share of reach coming from people who do not follow you is the closest native proxy for discovery.
  • Page visits from search. Available in Insights under Page traffic sources.
  • Google Search Console — external. If you have a website, watch for branded query growth; Facebook visibility feeds branded search.
  • Manual SERP check. Search your brand name and 3–5 service terms on Google in an incognito window monthly. Note whether your Page or your posts appear.
  • AI Mode citation check. Ask AI Mode your ten buying questions monthly and log whether you are named. This is the newest and currently the most revealing metric.
  • Message and call volume from the Page. The only number that ties visibility to revenue.

Your 14-day action plan

Days Task Why it matters
1–2 Confirm Page is public and professional; claim or clean up your username Gates Google indexing entirely
3–4 Rewrite Page name if needed; fix category to the most specific option Strongest single relevance signal
5–6 Fill every About field; add area names and payment methods in natural language Completeness and local intent
7 Run the AI Mode audit — ask ten buying questions, log the answers Turns guesswork into a content brief
8–11 Publish four answer-style posts, one per question, bilingual captions Builds retrieval inventory
12 Add custom alt text to your last 20 images Crawlable since July 2025
13 Request reviews from five recent customers; reply to every existing one Trust plus customer vocabulary
14 Link the Page from your site, GBP and other profiles; set a posting cadence Entity reinforcement and recency

Mistakes that quietly kill your visibility

  • Keeping the Page private or personal. A personal profile used as a business, or a restricted Page, is excluded from Google indexing entirely.
  • "DM for price." It may protect your margins from competitors, but it produces posts with no extractable information. Publish a range if you will not publish a number.
  • Keyword-stuffing the Page name. Meta rejects it, and even when it slips through it reads as untrustworthy to customers.
  • Inconsistent contact details. Three different phone numbers across your Page, website and Google listing weakens all three.
  • Posting only images with no caption text. A photo with no words is invisible to every search system discussed here.
  • Going dormant for months. Recency is a real signal. A three-month gap costs visibility that takes longer than three months to rebuild.

Frequently asked questions

Does Facebook Page SEO actually work, or is it just ads?

It works, and it is separate from ads. Ads have no direct effect on how your Page ranks in Facebook search. What ads do is generate engagement velocity, and engagement is a ranking input — so paid distribution amplifies organic visibility indirectly rather than buying it.

How long does it take to see results?

Profile-level changes — name, category, About fields — can affect search visibility within days once Meta approves them. Post-level and AI Mode visibility builds over 6–12 weeks of consistent publishing, because both systems need a pattern to read, not a single post.

Will my Facebook posts show up on Google?

Only if your Page is a public professional account and the post was published on or after 1 January 2020. Indexing is not guaranteed for every post — Google still decides what to index — but eligibility is the precondition.

Ekta post, dui bhasha, duibar index.

Do Facebook Recommendations help SEO?

Indirectly but meaningfully. They contribute trust signals to your Page and they add customer-written keyword text you did not have to produce yourself. They are not a documented ranking factor in the way Page name is, but the effect on both visibility and conversion is consistent enough to be worth pursuing.

Should I change my Page name to include keywords?

Add a short descriptor, not a keyword list. "TechZone BD — Laptop & Gaming PC, Uttara" is fine. "Best Cheap Laptop Shop Dhaka Bangladesh Low Price" will be rejected and would damage credibility if it were not. Remember that Meta reviews every rename and that changing the name breaks consistency everywhere else you are listed.

Can I turn off AI Mode using my content?

Not meaningfully. AI Mode draws on public content across Meta's apps, and there is no straightforward opt-out for most users. The practical response is not avoidance but accuracy: make sure the public information about your business is correct, specific and current, so that what gets synthesized is what you would have said yourself.

The short version

Facebook Page SEO in 2026 comes down to three things done consistently. Make your Page unambiguous — a clear name, the right category, every field filled. Write posts that answer real questions with real specifics, in the languages your customers actually search in. And treat public conversation as inventory, because AI Mode now reads it.

Most Pages in Bangladesh are doing none of this. That is the opportunity. For the wider strategy this fits into, see our Facebook marketing guide, and for the operational side of keeping a Page consistently active, our guide to social media management.
